The Best Miami Nightlife Spots
May 6 , 2011
Miami nightlife has something for just about everyone. There are many great clubs, and the top 10 Miami nightclubs should not be missed. Miami offers clubs, bars, comedy, live music, and plenty of action. Here are some of the highlights of all that is Miami nightlife.
Comedy Clubs
Miami has several prominent comedy clubs. The Improv, located in Coconut Grove, is the city's most famous. It regularly attracts top talent and famous names in the world of comedy. Throughout its nearly fifty-year existence, the Improv has played host to such comedy heavyweights as Richard Pryor, Jerry Seinfeld, Eddie Murphy, and Ellen DeGeneres. If you're looking for the best in comedy that Miami nightlife has to offer, look no further than the Improv.
If you're a fan of improv and sketch comedy, Just the Funny Improv Comedy Theatre is likely your best option. Just the Funny is Miami's favorite improv comedy troupe, and they perform shows every weekend. Tickets are inexpensive at around $10 per show, making this one of the most affordable Miami nightlife options.
Live Music
Miami also has its fair share of live music venues. The Fillmore Miami Beach is a 2,500-seat theatre that books well known national acts, including Interpol, Bruno Mars, and Girl Talk. This makes a show at the Fillmore more than worthy of a trip, and you can either purchase tickets ahead of time to make your evening a prominent part of your trip, or just walk up to the box office and see what's going on that day.
Tobacco Road in downtown Miami is another top choice for live music. Unlike the Fillmore, Tobacco Road's musical acts are mostly regional and local performers who play on themed nights. This makes Tobacco Road perfect for patrons who simply like live music and don't want to deal with the crowds of people eager to see specific bands. Tobacco Road's themed nights vary in genre, and include reggae, electronic, and soul music. The venue also has surprisingly excellent food, and it is well known for its burgers and empanadas. For those seeking music and food, Tobacco Road is tough to beat.
Dancing and Nightclubs
Sports in Miami are always popular, and the Miami Heat are often the top billed performers. Most night games are over by 10 pm, so what is there to do afterwards? Begin your adventure into Miami nightlife with a high flying basketball game, before leaving the arena and walking to Bongos Cuban Café for a night of Latin dancing and food. Bongos was opened by Gloria and Emilio Estefan to bring some serious Latin flair to the city's club scene, and it doesn't disappoint. The restaurant itself is excellent, and will surely please basketball fans who were able to resist the overpriced arena hot dogs and popcorn. Order pork tamales and fried green plantains if you'd just like a taste of the food, or go all in with a Cuban style steak. Afterwards, work off your meal on the dance floor. Bongo has also opened a location in South Beach, for those not in the downtown area (and for those who don't care for basketball).
Of course, Miami nightlife also offers other great nightclubs, some of which are ranked amongst the top ones in the world. If you're a beer lover, head to Abraxas and sample a few of the 200 beers it has to offer. For a true Miami clubgoing experience, Wall at the W Hotel is Miami's trendiest hotspot.
Whatever your tastes may be, Miami nightlife has something to keep you entertained.
