Shopping in Miami

May 6 , 2011

Miami offers its travelers an array of sophisticated shopping experiences. If you want to get away from the beach for an afternoon, or if you're a dedicated shopaholic who needs a fix, here is a guide to the best shopping in Miami.

It has many malls that feature both high end designers and value shopping, and there are rows of commercial shopping in the city's prominent neighborhoods. You'll also find fantastic boutiques tucked away throughout the city, completing the great opportunities for shopping in Miami.

Miami International Mall

The Miami International Mall is just 7 miles from the city's airport, making it easy to get to for even the busiest of business guests. It has approximately 140 stores, with Macy's, Dillard's, Gap, and Ann Taylor Loft representing just a few of the well known brands you'll find here. If you're just passing through the city, or if your stay is short, the Miami International Mall is a great choice for a quick shopping experience.

Dolphin Mall

Dolphin Mall, like the Miami International Mall, is located near Miami International Airport, so you can stop by for a quick post-flight fix if you're feeling a sense of shopping withdrawal (those Skymall catalogs just don't cut it sometimes). This is one of the best shopping in Miami experiences you'll find, with nearly 250 stores that include favorites like Bass Pro Shop, Marshall's, and Borders.

The theme of this mall is factory outlet shopping, and you'll find great deals on your favorite items at places like the Banana Republic Factory Store, Michael Kors, Last Call by Neiman Marcus, and Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th. Dolphin Mall also has a 19-screen movie theatre, a climbing wall, an impressive food court, and Bowlmor Lanes, a swanky, upscale bowling alley. You won't find tiny boutiques at Dolphin Mall, but you will get to shop for deals in your favorite stores. What better way to spend an afternoon shopping in Miami?

The Falls

If you want to enjoy a shopping mall experience but still soak in the sunshine of Miami, head for The Falls on US 1 and SW 136th Street. This open air mall has the brands you know and love, like Brooks Brothers and White House/Black Market, as well as the ever-dependable Bloomingdale's and Macy's. When you want to take a break from shopping, you can eat at P.F. Chang's China Bistro or Johnny Rockets, or you can take in a movie at the on-site theatre. Of course, when you're in Miami, it's tough to resist staying outside.

En Avance

En Avance is the place to go for luxury shopping in Miami. You'll feel as if you're about to enter a Miami nightclub when you're greeted by a velvet rope. Once you're inside, you'll find that the store showcases international designers, including DSquared2 and Naeem Khan. You'll also find American fashion mainstays, like Vera Wang. En Avance is the shopping locale where you want to be seen, and you'll have as much fun exploring new labels as will trying to spot celebrities.

Vierge Miracle & St. Philippe

No day of shopping in Miami would be complete without hunting for souvenirs. You could get family and friends some t-shirts or other touristy trinkets, but why not up the ante with authentic voodoo goods? Vierge Miracle & St. Philippe is an excellent local voodoo emporium, and the houngan and mambos (male and female high priests, for those who aren't keen on voodoo jargon) will hook you up with whatever you need. Frustrating love life? Problems at work? Consult with the experts and leave the store with either a renewed sense of purpose, or a seemingly weird collection of recommended products. Be respectful and genuinely interested, and you'll be treated very well.
