The Fairchild Tropical Gardens: Sunday Fun Day
Spend an amazing day exploring 83 acres of rare and tropical trees, plants, and flowers, as well as breathtaking views, music, food and other featured activities at the Fairchild Tropical Gardens. Admission is free every Sunday in August for this can't miss opportunity.
The Fairchild Tropical Gardens were established in 1938 and includes a tremendous collection of well-documented tropical plants, emphasizing palms, cycads, flowering trees and shrubs, vines, fruit trees, and critically endangered species. More than a local attraction the gardens serve as a world resource for collected species and an important center for education and research.
The garden is separated into several different areas that include Windows to the Tropics, a conservatory that displays nearly 2,000 plants of the tropics, and the Montgomery Palmetun, considered one of the most extensive and important collections of palms in the world. Before you leave, be sure to visit the rainforest section and the astoundingly beautiful butterfly garden, both of which will be highlights of your trip.
Free tram rides are available, but it is best to get in there early as they tend to fill up quickly. If you bring a mat, a towel and wear comfortable clothes, you can even take part in free yoga classes in the serenity of the gardens.
